Building Permits & Inspections

The Permit and Inspections Department issues all building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and miscellaneous permits, and schedules all required inspections. The building official is responsible for plan reviews and inspection of all building and remodeling projects. All electrical inspections are scheduled with our state electrical inspector.

Grading / Excavation / Fill Permits (PDF) are issued through the Engineering Department.

Obstruction permits are required if construction materials or Dumpsters, or Storage PODS are placed in the right-of-way. The permit fee is $50.  Obstruction permits are issued online only through the Dakota County One Stop Permit Shop.  Obstruction permits will not be issued during the snowplowing season.  Snow is expected soon, no further obstruction permits will be issued for this season, effective TBD.  When applying at the One Stop Roadway Permit Shop, please list the address where the obstruction will be placed.
