Is City Approval Required for Native Planting Landscape Areas?

There is no application or permit process required prior to planting. However, talk with your neighbors about your plan, the benefits of native plantings, and how they differ from overgrown turf grass and noxious weeds.

Native Planting Guidelines

Ordinance 1354 outlines requirements for native plant landscape areas, including:

  •  Any existing turfgrass must be eliminated prior to the introduction of the native plants.
  • The native plant landscape areas must be set back set at least five (5) feet from your front, side, and rear property line.
  • Soil erosion must be controlled during and after plantings are established
  •  Plants must be maintained to industry standards which may include season cutting.
